Message from the President

Well, this cartoon pretty much sums up my feelings this week.  I'm sure many of you can relate as well.

Thank you to Amy Seiling, Diane DeCarlucci, and Elizabeth Schwertfuehrer for helping distribute the cookie dough orders.  And a high five to student helpers Ila Seiling and Tara Schwertfuehrer for stepping in and helping out their moms.  Thank you to the students and parents for your patience during the busy times.

Books can still be purchased at our online book fair until November 16, 2021.  Mellon Middle School Book Fair Link

Nominating Committee Chair Volunteers Needed

The PTA is searching for four awesome parents to serve on the Nominating Committee. We are looking for a representative from each of our feeder schools: Foster, Howe, Markham and Washington.  The main responsibility of the group will be to recruit and invite other awesome parents to fill any upcoming vacancies on the local Mellon PTA executive board. The Nominating Committee is only active from January - February. This is a super fun way to get involved and work with the current PTA executive board! We can’t do this without all of you. Please consider donating your wisdom and time.

If interested please contact Jen Larence at mellonptapresident@gmail.com

8th Grade Math

Here are pictures from the Barbie Bungee activity that took place in Mr. Smith's 8th grade math class.  Students brought in action figures to make predictions on the number of rubber bands necessary to have an exciting, successful drop to the bottom of the stairwell. The activity was a culmination of a linear equations unit where students were making predictions from a line of fit.  Students ran trials for short drops and made predictions for a more significant drop to see how well they calculated.

Sports News
Basketball

Mellon's boys basketball season is underway!  Eagles Math teacher, Mark Lux is the head coach for the 7th grade team.  The boys played three games during their first week of the season.  The home opener was against Peters Township last Tuesday. Despite being down at the half, the boys rallied back for a win over the Indians 36-26.  The next day, Lebo hosted Trinity and came up short with a score of 16-32.  On Thursday, the team traveled to Bethel Park. At one point, the boys were down by 20 points, but closed the gap to 12 points.  It wasn't enough to beat the Hawks with the final score 42-30. Go Lebo!
